The Car Bras Research Guide
Air Dam
An air dam is a device made of metal or plastic fitted beneath the front bumper of a vehicle to enhance aerodynamics and stability by blocking the flow of turbulent air under the chassis. Custom full front end car bras are custom-made to allow full function of air dams.
Carbon Fiber
Carbon fiber finishes are actually simulations of actual carbon fiber weave. Authentic carbon fiber material showcases tiny carbon threads woven into a highly reflective fabric-like appearance with a great deal of shine. Simulated carbon fiber patterns are pressed into the material, emulating the precise weave of true carbon fiber material set into epoxy. Carbon fiber finish patterns are some of the most popular automotive items available today, because of their ultra-modern appearance.
Micro-perforated
Micro-perforated material is punched in precise patterns with tiny holes to make the material more breathable. The tiny perforations allow for moisture to evaporate after it has entered the outer layer. In all-weather car bras, micro-perforated material means the bra can get wet without having to be removed to dry.
Paint-safe
"Paint-safe" material refers to any number of products or materials that are non-abrasive on vehicle finishes. When it comes to car bras, the paint-safe inner lining is most often crafted from thick flannel or another knit cloth material. These linings are both soft to the touch and soft on your vehicle's paint.
Sandblasting
Sandblasting, in common uses, refers to the actual high-pressure blasting of sand to remove layers of glass or other materials from a surface. As with sandblasting in art or industrial uses, "sandblasting" has the same effect when referring to a car bra. If dirt and dust are allowed to build-up en mass between the bra and your paint, serious damage to your finish is likely.
The trapped dirt and dust act as the sand doing the blasting on your paint, as they are propelled by the movement of your car bra at higher speeds. The result is cloudy, dull paint that looks far different than the rest of your vehicle. Simple cleaning and care stops this effect from ruining your paint.
UV-resistant
UV - Invisible to the naked eye, UV (ultraviolet) light makes up only a small segment of solar radiation. However, UV light is responsible for finish-destroying photo degradation. Photo degradation results in discoloration, fading, brittleness, cracking, chalking and/or loss of mechanical properties.
UV-resistant material is treated with compounds that greatly reduce or prevent discoloration, cracking and stiffness. UV-resistant car bras preserve their looks, fit and effectiveness longer than non-treated bras.
